One year well child exam - growing up so fast!

Our little boy had his one-year well child exam this week. I was sick and didn't get much sleep the night before the appointment so Trevor and my mom took him. I felt a little funny not being there but I knew he was in good hands. He made some major progress with his growth! He does continue to be on the lighter side and weighs 21.6 lbs (30%). He is 30 inches long (50%) which is a jump from the 25th% at his 9 month well child. His head is now 50% and previously it was only 15%. We are calling his first year of growth a major success!

Picture Post - 1st Birthday Celebration #2

Picture Post

One year old!

It's official . . . we have a one year old! Porter declared himself a one-year old and started walking on his big day! We took him to Kids Club in Vancouver which is a huge indoor play structure. It is a padded, 3-story structure filled with tunnels and slides. I think the foam gave him confidence along with seeing all of the other kids walking. He started taking up to 8 steps at a time, previously he only walked 2-3 small steps before falling. He has continued to walk 8-10 steps and standing afterwards. He has made huge progress!

We had early birthday celebrations with Trevor's parents, Porter's Mor Mor and Popsy, the week before his birthday. We had an amazing cake from a local bakery. Porter tried a few bites while Daddy and Popsy enjoyed the rest! We took them up to Mt. Hood and it was beautiful and snowing! We went snowshoeing and skiing.

My parents are now here to celebrate. We didn't communicate about the cakes so Porter has two more birthday cakes, neither of which he is interested in eating. Porter's one year old milestes are:

- Walking!!! He still prefers to crawl but he is picking it up quickly.

- Talking alot. He doesn't have any words yet but he says "mamamama" not referring to me. He talks to you like he is having an in-depth conversation, we think he is going to be a talker!

-He loves musical instruments. He absolutely loves the tambourine and toys with bells in them.

- Snowsoeing. He has already been on two snowshoeing trips. The first trip didn't end well and he got too cold. The second trip was shorter and warmer and he fell asleep while it snowed on him. We are excited to watch him play in the snow next year!

- Social as could be! He loves people. He loves watching "big kids" and interacting with adults. I think daycare has been great for him because he loves to socialize with people.

- Separation anxiety. He doesn't really have stranger anxiety but he doesn't want to be left. He has cried a couple times when we have left him with a babysitter or at daycare. He is fine within minutes but I don't like seeing him cry as I leave.

- Sleep has declined. He has started to arise now around 5am rather than 6am, yuck! Today actually I was up at 4am with him. We still give him a bottle at 7pm and another one at 10pm. He is not much of a sleeper. Unfortunately he got that from me rather than Trevor who is the world's best sleeper!

- Whole milk. He has mostly transitioned to whole milk. We are still finishing a leftover formula container but I am giving him 3-4 bottles of whole milk daily. We are not sure how well he's doing since he had one day of vomiting and he has refused multiple bottles. Perhaps he is lactose intolerant like mama! He is still using bottles because he can't drink out of a sippy cup yet.

We are very excited about what the next year will bring for Porter. This has been the most exciting, fun, and exhausting year! He is more fun each day. Trevor loves all of the activities to come. I am excited as well but am missing my little baby who is quickly becoming a toddler. Time flies by. I have heard that line a million times and it really does go by as quickly as people says it does. You have to enjoy the ride!

New Years at Mt. Hood!

We spent New Year's Eve day snowshoeing at Mt. Hood. It was beautiful and COLD. Porter did well in the backpack until the end of the hike. We had a cozy dinner back at Zig Zag and stayed at our friends' cabin. New Year's Day started bright and early at 4am. Porter wanted to start his year out right! We skiied at Mt. Hood all day! It was sunny but very chilly. Porter enjoyed all of the new toys and friends at daycare. Notice in the pictures that Porter has learned to "smile." He has this huge cheesey grin showing his two teeth and his eyes close. It's pretty funny!
